Community Manager Journey: exploring coworking spaces in Perth, Australia

As a coworking space Community Manager at tershouse, I’m always curious to see how other spaces cultivate atmosphere, support members, and build communities. While visiting Perth, Australia, I had the amazing opportunity to explore three different coworking hubs by SpaceCubed: Riff, FLUX, and Fern. Each one left a unique impression on me, and in this blog, I want to share how the day unfolded, what stood out, and how these experiences could inspire our own coworking approach back home.

Community Manager Journey: exploring coworking spaces in Perth, Australia

Riff

Riff is located right in the heart of Perth’s CBD. From the moment I walked in, I could feel the buzz. The space is energetic, open, and filled with movement - people chatting over coffee, small groups gathering around shared desks, and a general vibe of collaboration.

What really stood out? The community-focused layout. There are breakout areas, creative corners, even a podcast studio tucked away in one section. The staff were warm and helpful, and it felt like everyone actually knows each other here. Riff is the kind of place where ideas collide naturally - perfect for creatives, freelancers, or anyone who thrives in a dynamic, social atmosphere.

FLUX

Next stop: FLUX - just a few minutes down the street, but an entirely different vibe. If Riff was lively and spontaneous, FLUX was polished and professional. Walking in, I immediately noticed the sleek, industrial interior: clean lines, lots of glass, and that “tech startup meets executive suite” energy.

FLUX seems tailor-made for startups, small teams, and businesses looking for a premium, central location. Meeting rooms were busy with presentations and strategy sessions. It offers all the amenities: phone booths, private offices, lounge areas. FLUX gave me a lot to think about in terms of functionality without sacrificing aesthetics.

Fern

I visited Fern - and it was amazing. Soft lighting, natural textures, and a quiet calm. There’s an elegance to the design: minimal, modern, but cozy. This space seems ideal for deep focus. Writers, designers, developers, anyone needing quiet time would thrive here. There are still common areas and event spaces, but they’re more designed for thoughtful gatherings rather than big, loud meetups. I loved the “hidden corners”, little seating nooks where you can take a call or simply breathe between tasks. As someone who spends most days juggling people and projects, I found Fern incredibly refreshing.

Three Spaces, One Vision

By the end of the day, I realized how brilliant Spacecubed’s model is. Rather than creating one all-purpose coworking space, they’ve built a network of specialized environments, each with its own personality, but connected through shared values, community perks, and a strong brand.

Riff for energy, collaboration, and creativityFLUX for business focus, professionalism, and functionalityFern for calm, reflection, and deep work

Each of these could inspire different parts of our space back in tershouse, whether it’s introducing new layout zones, adjusting the lighting for mood, or offering flexible memberships that match our members' work styles.

Perth gave me more than just sunshine it gave me ideas. Stay tuned for more!
